This rather garish set of blocks is a television test pattern known as SMPTE Color Bars.
It is most commonly used in countries where NTSC video standard is dominanant, such as North America.
This exercise was conducted to improve knowledge of using divs (divisions) in HTML. Divs are are used as building blocks for websites
and basically act as containers for content. This activity involved creating a series of
divs and nested divs, then styling them using CSS. All the shapes on the right are
styled with percentages which means no matter how large or small their container,
they will always display at the same relative size.
Please note, the colours, heights and widths are not accurate to the original SMPTE Color Bars standards, rather they
have been recreated 'by eye'.
